Name of Artifact: Latia Graham Leadership Style and Philosophy
Date of Artifact: May 10, 2023 Course#: EAD 502 Leadership philosophy is what a leader believes are important values to develop a goal and positive outcomes for their followers. The values I believe in as I develop my leadership philosophy are respect, education, good character, service, and excellence. I value respect because I believe everyone should be treated with respect. This includes how you communicate with others and how you treat others. Everyone should be respected regardless of their position or title. This helps promote healthy relationships with others. I value education because it is the foundation of your growth. There is a saying that says, “Once you know better, you do better.” One cannot grow if he or she is not constantly taking the time to learn about different things. I expect every person to gain knowledge and continue to grow as they develop the knowledge and apply it over time. Character is related to your morality. Character includes things like responsibility, dependability, and integrity. People with good character are people that can be trusted with tasks and do not need someone to constantly micromanage them. Individuals with good characters can be trusted to always do the right thing during all circumstances. I believe in providing service to others. I expect others to always give back or service others by either providing or participating in something that will help others. Another one of my leadership values would be excellence. Excellence is having the ability and desire to go above and beyond to achieve positive outcomes. I expect others to do their best when given tasks. Currently after reviewing the several types of leadership styles, my leadership philosophy may align best with servant leadership. Personally, I believe that some of the servant leadership and transformational leadership styles have some similarities that would be similar to my leadership philosophy. However, the transactional leader is distinctively different from other styles. The servant leader focuses on what students or staff may need, encourages them, and pushes them to their overall full potential in life. The transformational leader increases participation by increasing membership, commitment, and the ability to meet desired outcomes of an organization. The transformation leaders have found themselves to be more satisfied with their job. The transactional leader focuses on exchanges. They tend to want to use rewards which work as a control mechanism to help both parties receive what they want. The leadership styles of great men in the bible such as Nehemiah, Joshua, Elijah, Esther, and Peter are some of my favorites. Biblical leaders were submitted to God and acquired wisdom from God which was the reason for the result of their success. My primary desire will always be to please God and adhere to biblical standards. Accountability is a factor that can help drive an organization to success. We must have the ability to hold others accountable for their actions. This will help the overall success of the school, including staff and students. Everyone has a vital role to play which makes it a team effort. This gives everyone the opportunity to grow and help truly assess where they are so that you can develop ways to improve. This is not limited to academics. Students and staff need to be able to grow academically and socially. I could help students and followers to remain on tasks by possibly having meetings with them or just taking the time to speak with them to see how things are going. I can also be sure that rules are enforced that are necessary for learning and safe environments. I can also make sure everyone is being treated fairly by requiring the same standards or expectations for everyone. I plan to continue with my study of educational leadership styles. As I stated before, some of the leadership styles have a lot in common. My philosophy is an emerging model of effective and inspirational leadership because of my ability to see change and look forward to my future goals. Any time you see growth rather it is academically, socially, emotionally, or any part of the follower’s whole being, your presence has made an effective impact on the individual. It is important that leaders are not only able to look at the current state of a school or their followers. The leader should be able to look ahead and think about solutions. To measure the effectiveness of my model, I must assess my school to see where they are so that I can move them forward to the desired outcomes for the students, staff, and community. Another way my philosophy is similar to the servant leadership style is because it inspires others to focus on the overall needs of followers, allows them to be themselves, and helps them to grow inside and outside of the school. This model is effective because I enjoy helping others find their God given purpose in every aspect of life and I enjoy serving others. |
